Summary
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking an Applications Engineer to provide technical sales and applications support across metrology solutions. This role supports prospective and existing customers through product demonstrations, application development, technical recommendations, contract programming, training, and troubleshooting.
The Applications Engineer partners closely with sales, engineering, marketing, and customers to translate application requirements into practical measurement solutions.
What You'll Do
- Conduct hardware and software product demonstrations that showcase technical features, workflows, functionality, and performance to prospective and existing customers.
- Communicate product capabilities and benefits clearly for customer applications, including complex technical requirements.
- Partner with the regional sales team to assess customer applications and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Prepare detailed technical specifications and application requirements to support quotations and customer proposals.
- Develop programs and applications that meet customer specifications and measurement objectives.
- Consult with customers to understand requirements and incorporate feedback into application designs and workflows.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot application, software, and related hardware issues through resolution and follow-up.
- Validate programs and applications following development, maintenance, or testing and refine existing programs to improve performance.
- Prepare operating instructions and deliver product and application training that meets customer needs.
- Build and maintain positive customer relationships through responsive, professional technical support.
- Stay current on application engineering practices, metrology technologies, and relevant product advancements through training, independent research, and seminars.
- Collaborate with engineering and marketing teams on product development and customer application needs.
- Learn from experienced Applications Engineers and apply established techniques, processes, and best practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Foundational experience or education in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, metrology, or a similar technical environment; candidates with approximately 0–2 years of related professional experience are encouraged to apply.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to take a technical issue from problem definition through resolution and follow-up.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to customers and present to small groups.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with customers and internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively with direction, independently on assigned tasks, and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% based on customer and business needs.
Nice to Have
- Experience with metrology, measurement systems, manufacturing automation, CAD, programming, or related engineering applications.
- Exposure to technical sales, product demonstrations, customer training, or application support.
- Experience developing, testing, or optimizing technical programs or customer-specific applications.
Work Environment
- This is an on-site position based in Wilmington, Delaware, with travel of up to 75% to customer and other business locations.
- Work is performed in office, demonstration, manufacturing, and customer environments; noise levels may vary from low to moderate or higher depending on the location.
- The role regularly requires communication with employees and customers, use of computers and office equipment, and movement within office, demonstration, and manufacturing environments.
- The role may occasionally require bending or kneeling and lifting or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific visual abilities may include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required personal protective equipment will be provided when applicable.
