Technical Consultant, Nastran Expert

Summary

MSC Nastran, owned by Hexagon, is a multi-disciplinary structural analysis solver that performs static, dynamic, and thermal analysis across the linear and nonlinear domains, complemented with automated structural optimization and embedded fatigue analysis. It is primarily used in the aerospace, automotive, and mechanical engineering industries for finite element analysis (FEA). The CAE (MSC Nastran) Technical Consultant will support technical services, sales activities, and customer engagements by demonstrating the capabilities of MSC Nastran-based simulation solutions under the mentorship of a Senior MSC Nastran Expert.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop fluency in using MSC Nastran solvers, MSC Nastran DMAP, and associated pre/post tools.
  • Understand the key differentiators of MSC Nastran in the simulation software market.
  • Build confidence delivering technical demonstrations and answering customer questions.
  • Learn how to scope and execute services and benchmark projects that align with customer objectives.
  • Improve skills in translating technical results into commercial value arguments.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong foundational understanding of structural mechanics (stress, strain, modal analysis, dynamics); background knowledge in aeroelasticity is a plus.
  • Experience with MSC Nastran or similar FEA solvers from academic, internship, or professional roles.
  • Working knowledge of pre/post-processing tools (Patran, Apex, Femap, HyperMesh, etc.).
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working across multiple projects.
  • Eagerness to learn from a senior MSC Nastran expert and build customer-facing confidence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and delivering technical presentations, services projects activities and live demonstrations focused on MSC Nastran capabilities.
  • Create proof-of-concept models, benchmarks, and validation studies to illustrate solver performance and accuracy.
  • Support customer discovery sessions by gathering requirements and executing simulations aligned to customer workflows.
  • Document simulation methodologies, assumptions, and results in clear, customer-facing reports.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Business Development, and Product Management to support MSC Nastran business opportunities.
  • Assist in responding to Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Proposal (RFP) with technical input.
  • Participate in training and learning sessions on advanced MSC Nastran capabilities under mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–7 years of experience in CAE, preferably in the Aerospace or Automotive sectors.
  • Experience using MSC Nastran in project work is strongly preferred; DMAP skills are a plus.
  • Exposure to sales engineering concepts is an advantage but not required.

Work Environmennt

Primarily an office setting with flexibility for hybrid work. Regular use of standard office equipment (computer, phone, video conferencing). Occasional travel to customer sites and Hexagon offices may be required (up to 10%).
