Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, CNC Machining, Quality and Production teams, you will use your machining and toolmaking expertise to develop practical solutions that support safety, quality, productivity and operational efficiency. You will also contribute to new product introduction and automation initiatives by producing and modifying precision components and tooling for new and existing manufacturing processes.

What You'll Do

  • Building, assembling and fitting production tooling, fixtures, gauges and precision components from engineering drawings, CAD models and specifications.
  • Repairing, troubleshooting and modifying existing tooling to support production requirements and improve reliability.
  • Operating manual and CNC machining equipment to fabricate precision components to required specifications and tolerances.
  • Supporting production operations by responding to tooling-related issues, troubleshooting problems and helping minimise manufacturing downtime.
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing, Automation and Design Engineering teams to develop practical tooling solutions for new and existing products.
  • Supporting automation projects by fabricating, fitting and modifying machine components, fixtures and robotic tooling.
  • Verifying dimensional accuracy and conformance of tooling and components using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T requirements to determine appropriate machining, fitting and inspection methods.
  • Participating in root-cause investigations and implementing corrective actions for tooling failures and recurring manufacturing issues.
  • Maintaining tooling, equipment and work areas in a safe, organised and efficient condition in accordance with company safety requirements.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
  • Sharing technical knowledge and effective toolmaking practices with colleagues while working collaboratively across manufacturing functions.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in toolmaking, mould making, fixture building, machining, precision manufacturing or a closely related field.
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, recognised apprenticeship or equivalent combination of relevant technical training and practical experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machining processes, including milling, turning, grinding, fitting and precision assembly.
  • Experience operating manual machining equipment and applying appropriate machining techniques to produce precision components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models and GD&T requirements.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, indicators and height gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot tooling and manufacturing problems, identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tooling activities while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Quality, Production and other manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise multiple assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to quality and safety.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • CNC machine setup, operation or programming experience.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes.
  • Experience fabricating components or tooling for industrial automation or robotic systems.
  • Experience with optical or other advanced dimensional inspection equipment.
  • Fabrication, welding or machine rebuilding experience.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with SAP, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or comparable manufacturing systems.

Work Environment

  • This is an on-site position based in Skaneateles, New York.
  • Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing, machining and toolroom environment where noise levels and operating conditions may vary.
  • The role regularly requires standing, walking, reaching, bending and working around manual and CNC machine tools, production equipment and manufacturing operations.
  • The position requires regular handling of tools, fixtures, components and precision measuring equipment.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required by the work activity and manufacturing environment.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role, absent undue hardship.
