Senior Development Engineer

In this role, you will work as a Senior Development Engineer within the Product Development group, supporting the advancement and enhancement of nonlinear implicit finite element solvers in Marc and Nastran, as well as explicit solvers in Dytran. You will author detailed design documents, translate those designs into high-quality code, and conduct thorough testing to ensure robust and reliable performance. In addition to your own development work, you will lead projects from inception through delivery, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers to ensure successful outcomes across the team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithms for nonlinear finite element analysis.
  • Perform design, implementation, system integration, documentation, and unit/system testing across our nonlinear product lines (Marc, Nastran, Dytran)
  • Project and technical management
  • Author project and user documentation.
  • Stay abreast of external developments in Finite Element based structural dynamics methods
  • Enhance and correct defects in Nastran
  • Ensure all deliverables meet established Product Quality Metrics and Guidelines.
  • Assist QA and Project Testing teams with benchmarking and certification to ensure a successful and timely product release.
  • Provide second-line support to MSC application/support engineers.

Work Experience

  • MS with 12 – 18 years of work experience in industry, PhD with 10 – 16 years of work experience. Post-doctoral research is also considered as work experience
  • Experience in development and implementation of finite element code, user subroutine of commercial FE package, numerical material model is desired.
  • Programming experience in Fortran, C, C++, Python and other scripting languages.
  • Exposure to commercial finite element codes like LS-Dyna, Ansys, Abaqus, Nastran, Marc would be highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master’s degree / PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering or related field, with emphasis in development and application of software with finite element methods.
  • Engineering Simulation
    • For FE developers, detailed knowledge of solid mechanics, linear and nonlinear finite element solution (implicit and/or explicit methods)
    • Contact modeling including scaling is highly desired.
    • Experience with scaling (DMP/SMP) as well as GPUs desirable.Ability to read research papers, identify and implement algorithms
    • Exposure to commercial graphical user interfaces like Patran, Apex, ANSA or Hypermesh
    • Exposure to commercial products like LS-Dyna, Nastran, Adams, Marc, Abaqus, Ansys
  • Software Development
    • Good knowledge of programming.  Fortran, C, Cuda
    • Good knowledge of Unix and Windows
  • Planning and Communication
    • Ability to grasp instructions and provide effective feedback on projects
    • Ability to plan projects and execute
    • Ability to interact with peers, junior developers, support personnel and sales teams
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Extremely motivated and a team player
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing time line target commitments
