About the Role

 

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Applications Engineer to support the deployment and customer adoption of PRESTO, our fully automated robotic solution for 3D metrology and dimensional inspection.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing position involving metrology, robotics, automated systems, and advanced software tools. The role is primarily field-based across North America with occasional international travel depending on project needs.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Technical Demonstrations and Sales Support

 

  • Deliver on-site and virtual demonstrations of PRESTO robotic metrology systems.
  • Design and execute Proof of Concepts tailored to customer workflows.
  • Provide technical expertise during opportunity development.
  • Support discussions around automation strategy and measurement validation.

 

System Deployment and Automation

 

  • Install, configure, and validate PRESTO robotic metrology cells.
  • Develop automated inspection routines and optimize workflows.
  • Integrate PRESTO with metrology software such as PC-DMIS and PolyWorks.
  • Troubleshoot robotic, metrology, and software issues.

 

Customer Training and Support

 

  • Conduct structured training sessions for customers.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support.
  • Perform dimensional analysis, correlation studies, and GR&R.
  • Build long-term technical customer relationships.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

 

  • Communicate field feedback to Engineering and Product teams.
  • Contribute to internal documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field.

 

Required Experience and Skills

 

  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in metrology, robotics, or industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of 3D measurement principles, GD&T, and CMM fundamentals.
  • Experience with metrology software such as PC-DMIS or PolyWorks.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% across North America with occasional global travel.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with robotic systems or automated inspection cells.
  • Experience integrating metrology systems into production environments.
  • Experience conducting dimensional studies and statistical reporting.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Frequent travel across North America with occasional global travel.
  • Work performed at customer manufacturing facilities.
  • Exposure to industrial environments and factory floors.
  • May occasionally lift equipment components up to 30 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment as required.
