Job Description
Senior Service Engineer - Portable Products (f/m/d)

Summary

As a Senior Service Engineer, you will act as a technical authority within the Service team, providing advanced diagnostics, driving service process improvements, and mentoring junior engineers. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and precision of Hexagon Metrology’s high-accuracy measuring arms, while contributing to the continuous development of service standards and best practices.

This is an on-site role based in Milton Keynes with no travelling required.

Job Responsibilities

•    Technical Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert on service and support for Hexagon Metrology’s portable hardware, leading complex calibration, repair, and maintenance tasks. Provide guidance and training to less experienced engineers to elevate team capability.
•    Advanced Diagnostics & Problem-Solving: Lead fault diagnosis to module and component level, producing detailed technical reports and implementing long-term corrective actions to improve system performance and reduce recurrence of failures.
•    Service Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in service workflows, documentation, and tools. Contribute to developing best practices for fault analysis, repair procedures, and calibration methods.
•    Systems & Data Management: Ensure accuracy and integrity of service activity records within the ERP system (Servicemax). Use service data to identify recurring issues, propose solutions, and support predictive maintenance strategies.
•    Technical Customer Communication: Act as an escalation point for complex customer service cases, ensuring accurate technical communication, realistic timelines, and authoritative guidance on resolution strategies.
•    Quality, Health & Safety: Uphold and continuously reinforce Hexagon Metrology’s safety and quality standards, promoting a culture of compliance, precision, and excellence across the service function.

Qualifications

•    Engineering Expertise: Recognised qualification (e.g., HNC/HND, BTEC, or formal apprenticeship) or equivalent technical experience in engineering, ideally with a focus on precision equipment.
•    Hands-On Technical Depth: Proven background working with high-value capital equipment, combining mechanical and electronic diagnostic skills. Experience with metrology or precision instruments is highly desirable.
•    Leadership & Mentoring: Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues, transfer knowledge, and lead by example in technical problem-solving.
•    Continuous Improvement Mindset: Experience driving service process improvements, standardisation, and best practice implementation.
•    Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the UK.

What we offer:

•    Career Growth: Access to ongoing development through factory training courses and the opportunity to gain new skills and certifications across different departments, products, and technologies.
•    Cross-Training Opportunities: Expand your career horizons with cross-training in various technical areas within the business.
•    Team Culture: Join a dynamic, motivated, and young team. We believe in collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous learning to achieve success together.
•    Competitive Salary & Benefits: Enjoy a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that includes a pension plan, cycle-to-work scheme, and an on-site gym.
