About the Role
The Finance & Accounting Senior Specialist is a hands-on expert responsible for core accounting and tax operations for the Portable Metrology business in Japan, with ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings in compliance with Japanese and international standards. The role initially focuses on accounting activities while gradually expanding to support FP&A and Business Partnering as business knowledge and experience grow.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations: journal entries, general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and sub-ledgers.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and master data; ensure accurate postings; coordinate with IT/global process owners on ERP changes and data integrity.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close for Japan; prepare accruals and provisions; manage closing calendars and cut-offs with cross-functional partners.
- Prepare financial statements and management reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analyses, reconciliations, and commentary) for the Japan entity and division.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS for group reporting and Japanese GAAP/statutory requirements (Companies Act), including documentation and accounting policies.
- Support tax-related accounting (consumption tax, withholding, corporate tax packs) in coordination with tax advisors and the corporate tax team.
- Apply accurate revenue recognition (e.g., IFRS 15) for hardware, software, and services; manage deferred revenue, warranty, and other key reserves.
- Support internal and external audits; prepare schedules, respond to requests, remediate findings; maintain strong internal controls and process documentation (including J-SOX).
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain on inventory and cost accounting topics (standard cost, WIP, margin analysis) relevant to metrology products and services.
- Execute treasury-related tasks (payments, collections, cash forecasting) in line with company policies and control requirements.
- Generate recurring and ad-hoc reports/KPIs; provide insights to FP&A and business leaders; contribute to forecasts and budgets with accurate actuals and drivers.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization of Record-to-Report processes; streamline workflows, write SOPs, and enhance data quality and control effectiveness.
- Collaborate across Sales, Service, Customer Support, Logistics, and Global/Regional Finance to resolve issues swiftly and enable business execution.
- Business trip to Nagoya for training, handover and collaboration required twice a month.
Qualifications
Must-Have Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including month-end close, GL ownership, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Native-level Japanese (required), Business-level English for global collaboration and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of Japanese GAAP/statutory requirements and working knowledge of IFRS and experience with group reporting/consolidation inputs.
- Strong IT proficiency with advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookup functions, complex formulas), and a high level of data accuracy.
- Proven ownership mindset, attention to detail, and ability to independently manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess the attitude and skills to proactively learn new things and take the initiative to implement them in fast-changing organization.
- Owns results-driven skills to manage multiple tasks persistently meeting the initial deadline of the output.
- Clear, structured communication and strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial technology, or distribution environments (inventory and cost accounting exposure).
- Experience with revenue recognition for multi-element arrangements (hardware, software, services).
- Experience using ERP systems, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is plus.
- Experience supporting internal/external audits and maintaining internal controls
- Proficiency with reporting/analytics tools (e.g., Power BI) or advanced Excel automation.
- Professional credentials: Nissho Boki (Level 2 or higher), CPA, or equivalent.

- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation for all accounting processes and controls.
