Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division is seeking an Applications Developer – Production Machining- Remote.

Functional Summary

Applications Developer – Hexagon Production Software

The Applications Developer will use advanced technical skills to design, develop, and maintain automation solutions for our Hexagon Production CAM software product line. This role focuses on backend development using VB.net, VBA, and Hexagon’s API to create Add-ins and macros that enhance workflows and internal automation projects. Unlike traditional Application Engineers, this position emphasizes coding, automation, and software development rather than manufacturing training.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Develop custom automation solutions and Add-ins for Hexagon Production CAM Software using VB.net, VBA, and APIs.
  • Collaborate with software development team to enhance core product capabilities.
  • Create and deliver technical documentation for internal and external use.
  • Provide technical support for automation solutions, troubleshooting code and API integration issues.
  • Travel to customer and partner sites for project implementation and technical demonstrations (approximately 20% of the time).
  • Maintain and optimize existing automation solutions, ensuring stability and performance.
  • Stay current with new development tools and methodologies relevant to CAM automation and Hexagon’s API.
  • Analyze workflows and identify opportunities for automation improvements.
  • Mentor or collaborate with team members to support manufacturing-specific knowledge when needed.

Qualifications

 

  • Proficiency in VB.net, VBA, and API integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools and environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Prior experience with CAM software, particularly Hexagon Production CAM Software, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and machine tool applications is a plus but not required.

 

Additional Attributes

 

  • Proven experience developing complex software solutions, including add-ins, macros, or automation tools.
  • Comfortable designing and maintaining scalable code for production-level software.
  • Strong logical thinking and debugging skills to troubleshoot complex software integration issues.
  • Experience creating automation solutions that directly improve productivity or workflow efficiency.

Work Environment

Remote workers’ home office will adhere the below characteristics to the best of their ability.

•    Primarily an office setting, with occasional visits to the customer shops
•    Office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated.
•    Office noise levels are considered low to moderate.
•    Customer shop noise levels are considered moderate.
•    If required, PPE will be provided.
•    Ability to travel up to 30%

 

Education


•    High School Diploma or GED required.
•    1-3 years of related experience
•    Previous experience with CAD/CAM software is a plus.
